#PawanKumarChamling is an #Indian politician & writer who served as the 5th #ChiefMinister of #Sikkim from 1994 to 2019. He was the longest serving Chief Minister of Sikkim and India, surpassing Jyoti Basu. Chamling is the Founding President of #SikkimDemocraticFront (#SDF)

Chamling was born on 22nd September 1950 in Yangang, Sikkim. He studied at the Government Higher Secondary School, Gangtok, and the North Bengal University. He joined the Indian National Congress in 1973 and was elected to the Sikkim Legislative Assembly in 1979. He was appointed Minister for Food and Civil Supplies in the #NarBahadurBhandari Government.

In 1994, Chamling formed the Sikkim Democratic Front and led it to victory in the Assembly elections. He became the Chief Minister of Sikkim at the age of 43, making him the youngest Chief Minister in India at the time.

Chamling served as the Chief Minister of Sikkim for 25 years. During his tenure, he implemented a number of development programs, including the construction of roads, schools, hospitals, and power plants. He also introduced a number of social welfare schemes, such as the old age pension scheme, the widow pension scheme, and the free education scheme.

Chamling was defeated in the 2019 Assembly elections by #PremSinghTamang. He is currently a member of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly.

Chamling is a controversial figure & has been accused of corruption and nepotism. However, he is also a very popular figure and is credited with bringing development to Sikkim.

Free Education: Chamling introduced free education for all children in Sikkim from kindergarten to Class 12.

Old age pension: Chamling introduced an old age pension scheme for all citizens of Sikkim above the age of 60.

Widow pension: Chamling introduced a widow pension scheme for all widows of Sikkim.

Healthcare: Chamling improved the healthcare system in Sikkim by building new hospitals and clinics.

Roads: Chamling built new roads and improved the existing road network in Sikkim.

Power: Chamling built new power plants and improved the power supply in Sikkim.

Tourism: Chamling promoted tourism in Sikkim by developing new tourist destinations and improving the infrastructure for tourists.

Sports: Chamling promoted sports in Sikkim by building new sports facilities and providing financial support to athletes.

Environment: Chamling took steps to protect the environment in Sikkim by banning plastic bags and promoting the use of renewable energy.

Peace and harmony: Chamling maintained peace and harmony in Sikkim by promoting communal harmony and tolerance.
