Satish Gujaral / Biopic ðŸ‘ˆ

Satish Gujral (25 December 1925 – 26 March 2020) was an iconic Indian painter, sculptor, muralist, architect and writer. He was born in Jhelum, Punjab, British India (now in Pakistan), into a Punjabi Hindu Khatri family. He was the son of Indian politician Avtar Narain Gujral and the brother of I. K. Gujral , the 12th Prime Minister of India; his sister in law, Sheila Gujral, was a noted Hindi poet. His nephew Naresh Gujral is also a politician.

Gujral was educated at the National College of Arts, Lahore (NCA) and the Gymkhana Hall of Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay. He moved to Mexico in 1950, where he studied mural painting at the Palacio de Bellas Artes. He returned to India in 1954 and began a career as a painter, sculptor, and muralist.

Gujral's work is known for its bold colors, strong lines, and geometric forms. He often used his art to express his political and social views. His murals often depict scenes of poverty, violence, and oppression. He also created a number of sculptures and paintings that celebrate Indian culture and history.

Gujral was a recipient of numerous awards, including the Padma Bhushan (1971), the Padma Vibhushan (1999), and the Bharat Ratna (2004). He was also a member of the Lalit Kala Akademi, the highest Indian academy for the arts.

Gujral died in New Delhi on 26th of March 2020, at the age of 94...but remains an immortal through his incredible body of work.

I made a very unusual Biopic with him…. and he complemented me so many times….he patted me on the back & said …many many people had made films on him …but the unconventional and unique treatment & the manner in which I had showcased his life was charged with an energy that made him see the film many times.

The films I make are not just films, I run many Campaigns and Initiatives in parallel which create many stakeholders as partners. So when I showed him how this film would be premiered, he was charged with a childlike enthusiasm ….so vibrant and so alive….and the audience was shocked to see the legendary Artist "leap out" of the projection screen the way he emerged "out of the screen". The audience was stunned and when they got over their shock he was given a roaring applause. He never stopped talking about it….

Watch my #Biopic  to see the life & art of this most remarkable Artist called #SatishGujral…..and see how he performed this remarkable "appearance" for my film… he will always remain an immortal….
