Babylon The Film -A Review

Babylon The Film is a sensual & opulent insight into the world of Cinema when it was still "visuals on a tangible peice of plastic". It showcases creative passion, the larger than life Stars, the Studios… the Big Budgets, the Heartbreak….the brutal and addictive glare & cheers of an adoring audience and the eventual fall from grace.

This Film will be one for the yesteryear technicians and film people, who were part of the plastic celluloid era…..it is a nostalgic gaze at a world that has vanished to be replaced by a digital word unaware that in the very recent past, visual clips were brought together through a Splicing Machine and Gum.

This Film will probably Bomb …..but it will be an immortal….worthy of a watch even 50 yrs later.

Films and Cinema excellence have been driven by breakthroughs of remarkable passion & innovation …. & Businesses that were shaped by this highly unpredictable & creative ecosystem.

Brad Pitt, though is wasted as the aging superstar….its not like that there were no successful "crossovers" from The Silent Era to the Talkies…..If the Script had kept that element in mind it would have taken off the pathos of its  pathetic and depressing ending …

Cinema must have its Heroes ….. Pitt could have been depicted as Gary Cooper…Douglas Fairbanks Jr.... as a  winner. This Film lacked the continuity in its "Hero Narrative"….. the narrative of one of the characters who should have been shown transiting or "adapting" his/ her skills to Talkies…successfully.

Why do people make movies that make you feel so "bad"… Cinema has some great winners ….. tell a better story …. Tell a story about  its winners….and yet tell the story about its Heritage, Legacy, History.... sell Happy Illusions....
