#August_15th is India's #IndependenceDay, a National Holiday that commemorates India's Independence from British Rule in 1947.

The Indian Independence Act was passed by the British Parliament on July 18, 1947, and came into effect on August 15, 1947. The Act divided British India into two Dominions, 🔹India and 🔹Pakistan.

The first Prime Minister of India Jawaharlal Nehru, gave a historic speech on the eve of Independence. In his speech, Nehru called on Indians to build a "New India" - free from poverty, ignorance, and inequality.
