How India changed The Radcliffe Line

Indira Gandhi, the Prime Minister of India, and then General Sam Manekshaw, the Chief of the Army Staff, led the Indian Army to victory in the 1971 India-Pakistan war. This war resulted in the creation of the new nation of Bangladesh, which was formerly East Pakistan.

The Radcliffe Line was the Border that was drawn between India and Pakistan after the Partition of British India in 1947. The line was deeply unpopular in East Pakistan, which was populated mostly by Bengalis. The Bengalis felt that they were being discriminated against by the West Pakistani Government, and they began to demand Independence.

In 1971, the Pakistani Military  launched a crackdown on the Bengalis in East Pakistan. This crackdown led to a mass exodus of refugees to India. Indira Gandhi and Sam Manekshaw decided to intervene in the conflict, and they launched a military offensive against Pakistan. The Indian Army quickly overwhelmed the Pakistani forces in East Pakistan, and Bangladesh was declared independent on December 16, 1971.

The creation of Bangladesh was a major turning point in the history of South Asia. It showed that India was willing to use military force to protect its interests, and it also led to the decline of Pakistan as a regional power. The war also had a significant impact on the Radcliffe Line, which was redrawn to reflect the new borders of Bangladesh.
