Dhanteras / Ancient Hindu Festival

Dhanteras
is a Hindu festival celebrated on the Thirteenth Lunar Day of the Krishna Paksha (Dark Fortnight) in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin. It is the first day of the five-day Diwali Festival. The word Dhanteras is a combination of two words: Dhan, which means wealth, and Teras, which means thirteen.

Dhanteras is a day to pray for wealth and prosperity. It is also a day to buy new utensils and jewelry, as these items are believed to bring good luck and abundance.

According to Hindu Mythology, Dhanteras is the day when Dhanvantari, the God of Ayurveda and Medicine, emerged from The Ocean during the Churning of the Milk Ocean (Samudra Manthan). Dhanvantari is holding a pot of Amrit, the nectar of immortality, in one hand and a sacred text about Ayurveda in the other hand.

On Dhanteras, people worship Dhanvantari and Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity. They also light diyas (oil lamps) and candles to illuminate their homes and welcome Lakshmi.

Rituals on Dhanteras:-
* Buying new utensils and jewelry
* Decorating the house with diyas and lights, pujas.
* Eating sweets and other traditional foods
* Giving gifts to family and friends
*Buying Salt & mopping the floor by the family members.

Dhanteras is a time for celebration and hope. It is a day to pray for a prosperous and happy future....
