The Shree Jagannath Temple of Puri is one of the most sacred Hindu Temples in the world. It is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, a form of Lord Sri Krishna/ Vishnu. The Temple is located in the coastal town of Puri in the State of Odisha, India.


The Jagannath Temple is known for its many mysteries, some of which have defied scientific explanation. Here are a few of the most intriguing mysteries associated with the temple:
⏺️No Shadow: The Jagannath Temple is one of the tallest temples in the world, but it casts no shadow at any time of the day. This is a phenomenon that has puzzled scientists for centuries.
⏺️Flag Direction: The flag that flies atop the Jagannath Temple always flutters in the opposite direction of the wind. This is another mystery that has no scientific explanation.
⏺️Wooden Idols: The idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balabhadra, and his sister Subhadra are made of wood and are replaced every 12 years in a ritual called Nabakalebara. It is said that the new idols are carved from special trees that are chosen by divine intervention.
⏺️Mahaprasad: The Mahaprasad, or food offering, that is served at the Jagannath Temple is never spoiled, even though it is cooked without any preservatives.
⏺️Sound of Waves: It is said that the sound of the waves from the Bay of Bengal can be heard inside the Jagannath Temple, even though the temple is located about two kilometers from the shore.
⏺️It is believed that Lord Krishna's immortal heart “Brahmpadhartha” is housed in the wooden sacred idols they perish due to the heat that emanates from it. They idols are changed every 8-19 years gap….
⏺️A Secret Ritual is performed to replace the sacred idols that houses the Holy Brahmpadhartha. All lights are switched off in The Temple and the neighborhood. The Ritual is performed in complete darkness with “The Chosen” who are blind folded during the Ritual.
In addition to these mysteries, the Jagannath Temple is also known for its annual Rath Yatra festival. During this Festival, Idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra & Subhadra are placed on three Chariots & pulled through the streets of Puri by hundreds of devotees. The Rath Yatra is one of the largest religious festivals in the world and attracts millions of pilgrims each year.
Despite the many mysteries associated with it, the Jagannath Temple is a place of great reverence and devotion for Hindus all over the world. It is a reminder of the Ancient and profound spiritual traditions of India.
