Mohd Bagh Club/ Lucknow

The Mohd Bagh Club (MBC) is a Lucknow-based elite Club established in 1899, and its history is intertwined with that of the city itself.

The Mahd Bagh Club in Lucknow, India, is indeed a legacy of the colonial era, steeped in history and exuding an old-world charm. Established in 1899, the club was originally meant for the British residents of Lucknow, but over time, it has transformed into a prestigious social hub for the city's elite.

The Club’s grounds were once part of an Orchard named Mahomed Bagh, which belonged to Dilkusha, a Lucknow neighborhood. After the British Raj took over in 1856, they established the Lucknow Cantonment in the area. The club itself was founded by the British Army in 1899.

The Club's architecture is a testament to its colonial roots. The grand, two-story building boasts a blend of Victorian and Gothic styles, with red brickwork, arched windows, and intricate detailing. The lush green gardens surrounding the club provide a welcome respite from the bustle of the city, and the interiors are adorned with elegant chandeliers, antique furniture, and portraits of past members.

One of the most distinctive features of the Mahomed Bagh Club is its bar. The bar is said to be the oldest in Lucknow and is decorated with vintage photographs and memorabilia. It is a popular spot for members to unwind and socialize after a long day.

The Mahomed Bagh Club has been a witness to some of the most important events in Lucknow's history. The Club has also been frequented by many famous personalities, including Mahatma Gandhi, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Indira Gandhi....

The Club’s Management Committee consists of five elected civilian members and five serving defense officers. The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the Military Station Area (MUPNSA) is The Club’s Vice Chairman & Managing Director.

Today, the Mahomed Bagh Club continues to be a vibrant and exclusive social club. Membership is by invitation only, and there is a long waiting list. However, for those who are fortunate enough to be a part of it, the Mahomed Bagh Club is a place to connect with Lucknow's rich history and culture, and to enjoy the finer things in life.

The MBC offers a variety of facilities to its members, including seven bungalows, five transit cottages, a library, air-conditioned bars, a family lounge, party rooms, a dining hall, billiards rooms, card rooms, a ballroom, a tennis court, a marriage lawn, a swimming pool, squash courts, a children’s play park, and more. The Club also hosts regular events, such as fashion shows, Ghazal evenings, and musical concerts.
