Ancient Beginnings: Evidence suggests clothing existed in the Indus Valley Civilization (3300-1300 BCE) with cotton being a prominent fabric. 

Drapes & Stitches: Throughout history, India witnessed the evolution of the sari, dhoti, lungi, and other regional garments. Techniques like dyeing and embroidery flourished.

The 20th Century:

Post-Independence (1947):The focus was on reviving traditional textiles and designs, leading to the rise of "ethnic chic." Ritu Kumar, a pioneer, emerged in the 1960s, reinterpreting traditional weaves and silhouettes for a modern audience.

The Modern Fashion Industry:

1980s & 1990s: Economic liberalization and exposure to global fashion led to a significant boom. This era saw the rise of several iconic designers who redefined Indian fashion:

Rohit Khosla (1958-1994): The undispute Prince & Pioneer of Couture in India . The man who reinvented & internationlised India's Fashion world....Known for his structured silhouettes, innovative drapes, and use of not only traditional luxurious fabrics like silk and brocade...but also  unconventional fabrics customised for his designs.

Tarun Tahiliani: A Pioneering & Visionary designer Tarun Tahiliani blends tradition with modernity, transforming Indian bridal wear into an art form embraced by the world. 

Rohit Bal : Flamboyant desiner famous for his fusion of Indian textiles with Western tailoring and his vibrant, whimsical designs. 

Impact and Legacy:

These designers, along with Ritu Kumar and many others, played a pivotal role in:

Global Recognition: The have put Indian fashion on the world map.

Modern Interpretation:Reinterpreting traditional clothing for contemporary tastes.
