Founder: Jayaram Banon, a hospitality entrepreneur from Karkala (Udupi) with deep passion for authentic vegetarian cuisine.
Beginnings: What started as a modest Canteen called “Sagar” in 1980 laid the foundation for something much bigger.
First Restaurant: In 1986, the first Sagar outlet opened in Defence Colony, New Delhi, introducing North Indian diners to genuine South Indian vegetarian flavours.
Early Growth & Brand Identity
1991: The restaurant evolved into Sagar Ratna, establishing a brand identity that connected quality, tradition, and consistency.
1995–1999: Expansion beyond Delhi saw new outlets in Noida and the first franchise outlet in Ludhiana, Punjab, marking the beginning of nationwide growth.
By the late 1990s, Sagar Ratna had become a recognizable name across North India.
Expansion & Recognition
2002–2005: Key outlets opened at Hotel Ashok and in Connaught Place, two prestigious locations in New Delhi.
2005: The brand began international expansion with an outlet in Singapore.
2006–2017:Sagar Ratna continued spreading across India — including Guwahati (Assam), Katra, Mangalore, Vaishno Devi (multiple locations) & Pahalgam in Kashmir.
2011: Further global recognition with an outlet in Bangkok, Thailand.

Over decades, Sagar Ratna became synonymous with authentic South Indian vegetarian cuisine — especially dosas, idlis, sambhar, and filter coffee prepared fresh daily.
