The Story of St. Stephen’s College/ India
🎬 St Stephen's College
The origins of St. Stephen’s College trace back to 1854, with the founding of St. Stephen’s High School by Samuel Scott Allnutt, Chaplain of Delhi and a member of St. John’s College, University of Cambridge, under the Delhi Mission of the United Society.
Following the closure of Government College, Delhi in 1879, Valpy French called upon the Cambridge Mission—an Anglican Mission established by Alumni of the University of Cambridge—to fill the void in higher education in Delhi.
Guided by the vision of Cambridge Scholars and Missionaries & in response to The British Indian Government’s promotion of Global Education, The Cambridge Brotherhood formally founded St. Stephen’s College on 1st of February 1881, in partnership with the United Society Partners.
From its inception, St. Stephen’s carried a distinct Cambridge academic influence, blending rigorous scholarship with moral leadership—a legacy that continues to endure.
